5/7/2008 Men’s Golf Earns At-Large to National Championship COLUMBUS , Ohio – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the qualifiers for the 57th Annual NAIA Men's Golf National Championship. The tournament will be held at Indiana National Golf Club in Plymouth , Indiana , May 13-16, 2008 .
This year's championship will feature 28 teams, including 13 region champions, 14 at-large bids and one host berth, and four individual qualifiers. more
Ohio Dominican will be making their first ever appearance at the national tournament after receiving the 14th at-large berth for the tournament. ODU will be joining Region IX Champion and fellow American Mideast Conference representative Malone College at next weeks event.
"We are very excited about the opportunity to compete at the national tournament," said head coach Chris Deibel. "Earning one of the 15 at-large bids is a true testament to how hard our team has worked in building this program. I feel we will represent our conference and region extremely well at the tournament and am extremely happy for the young men."
The tournament will be hosted by Bethel ( Ind. ) who was awarded the final at-large berth and automatic bid as the host institution. |
4/25/2008 Arnett Set School Record with Tournament Low 64 HOWARD, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's Adam Arnett shot a tournament low round of 64 at the NAIA Region IX/X and American Mideast Conference Tournament on Friday morning in Howard , Ohio . However, Malone College was able to capture their fifth straight regional and conference team title at Apple Valley Golf Course, but the story of the day was Arnett's 64 that was one stroke off the course record.
The Pioneers shot a final round 281 to secure a 19 stroke lead over Ohio Dominican. In the three rounds Malone shot team scores of 304, 288 and 281 to win its 21st overall conference title. more
For the second straight year Ben Smith of Malone finished as the Al Turner Award winner given to the tournaments medalist. Smith shot rounds of 77-70-66 for a three round total of 213 (-3). Teammate Justin Lower came in second for the Pioneers after firing rounds of 73-72-70 (-1). Adam Arnett ( Lancaster , OH ) of Ohio Dominican took third place with a three round total of 217 (+1). Arnett shot rounds of 79-64-74. Rounding out the top five was Darren Phipps of Malone who shot a 220 (+4) with four players tied at 225.
Arnett's second round 64 set a new record for the Panthers for a single round score. He made eight birdies and 10-pars on the par 72-6946 course. Bryan Adkison ( Akron , OH ) finished the tournament tied for fifth after shooting rounds of 76-77-72 (225). Danny Sorgini (Pickerington, OH) also finished in the top ten, earning All- AMC Accolades, after turning in scores of 77-77-73 (227). Arnett and Adkison were also named to the All- AMC Team.
Ohio Dominican also placed six players on the 2008 AMC Scholar Athlete Team. Seniors Arnett, Matt Hawthorne ( Chillicothe , OH ), Todd Suman ( Vandalia , OH ) and juniors Adkison, Sorgini and David Cook ( Mt. Gilead , OH ) all received the distinguished award. Students earning the award must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 and be of junior or senior status. |
4/22/2008 Adam Arnett Leads Panthers to 3rd Place Finish at Malone College Men’s Golf Invitational COLUMBUS , Ohio – The Ohio Dominican University men's golf team finished third at the Malone College Men's Golf Invitational over the weekend at the Tannenhauf Golf Course in Alliance , Ohio . The Panthers were led by senior Adam Arnett who finished three strokes back of eventual tournament champion Justin Lower of Malone with a two day total of 143.
Malone was crowned the team tournament champion after firing rounds of 285 and 287 for a Spring Invitational Tournament record of 572 in the two round event. Lower tied an individual tournament record with a 140 (71/69) to earn him the overall medalist award. Tommy Yamaoka of Hope College tied a course record on the second day of the tournament with a low 18 hole round of 65 to finish one stroke ahead of Arnett. Arnett joined Lower and Yamaoka as well as Malone's Michael Strayer and Ryan Gaughan on the All-Tournament Team. more
Ohio Dominican's Todd Suman ( Vandalia , OH ) found himself one stroke back of Lower after the first round with a team low 71 after the first day. Arnett's 73 kept him in contention for the title and added a second day round of 70 to finish with a 143 good for third place. Suman rounded out the tournament with a two round total of 150 to finish tied for 11th place.
ODU will return to action this Thursday and Friday when they host the AMC /NAIA Region IX Tournament at Apple Valley Golf Course in Howard , Ohio . |
4/14/2008 Men’s Golf Finishes 3rd at Mount Vernon MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican University men's golf team finished 3rd at the Mount Vernon Cougar Classic over the weekend, finishing eight strokes behind tournament champion Cedarville University. ODU's Adam Arnett (Lancaster, OH) paced the Panthers, finishing in a tie for 3rd with a two-day total 145.
The Panthers finished the tournament with a combined score of 607. Arnett was helped in scoring by Danny Sorgini (Pickerington, OH) who shot a 150, which was good for a 6th place overall finish. Todd Suman (Vandalia, OH) also put in a strong showing finishing in a tie for 19th place with a 156. Nick Trego (Columbus, OH) also shot a two day total 156 to help the Panthers cause. more
Cedarville University was the team champion shooting a combined score of 599. Trevor Bowman, also of Cedarville was the event medalist, shooting a two day total 141. Arnett was named to the All-Tournament Team after finishing in the top 5 for the first time this season.
The men return to action on Friday, April 18th-19th when they will compete in the Malone Invitational at the Tannenhauf Golf Club in Alliance, Ohio. |
