8/23/2010 Follow Assistant Golf Coach Danny Sorgini at U.S. Amateur by Scott Miles UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Former ODU standout and current assistant golf coach Danny Sorgini is returning to the links this week, competing at the U.S. Amateur at Chambers Bay on Monday and Tuesday.
Sorgini is one of 312 players in the field, and the top 64 will advance to the match play stage, which begins Wednesday. He tees off at 3:40 p.m. (EDT) today and 10:25 a.m. (EDT) tomorrow. Live scoring and video is available by clicking here. more
Sorgini was a two-time All-American for the Panthers from 2008-09 and also earned All-American honors as a sophomore at Tiffin.

8/16/2010 Men’s Golf Team Named Academic National Champions by Scott Miles NORMAN, Okla. – Ohio Dominican’s men’s golf team finished the 2009-10 school year with a 3.577 cumulative GPA, the best in the NAIA, earning the squad recognition as Academic National Champions by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
ODU was also the lone NAIA school to earn President’s Special Recognition for having a cumulative GPA higher than a 3.5 and was one of just seven NAIA teams to record a GPA higher than a 3.0. more
The Panthers’ golf team is no stranger to success off the links, as this is the second-straight year the team has received national academic accolades. Last year, the Panthers were just edged by the Savannah College of Art and Design for the top spot in the NAIA and also earned President’s Special Recognition honors.
Eight players finished the year with a GPA higher than a 3.0, including:

Trego also was recently named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar for a second-consecutive year, one of only four golfers at the NAIA level to receive that distinction.

7/27/2010 Trego Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar
NORMAN, Okla. – Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars for Divisions I, II and the NAIA have been announced by the GCAA. A total of 119 players in Division I, 55 in Division II and four in NAIA earned the honor. Additionally, 22 honorees were added to the previously released Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars.
Senior Nick Trego (Dublin, OH) earned his second Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar award as he was one of only four golfers at the NAIA level to receive this distinction. Joining Trego are Mika Becktor and Scott Melton from the Savannah College of Art and Design and Michael Strayer of Malone University. Last year, Trego was one of just eleven golfers nationwide to receive the honor in NAIA. more
"This award is definitely a testament to the great deal of hard work Nick puts in not only on the golf course, but in the classroom as well," said Head Coach Chris Deibel. "I could not be more proud of Nick and the way he represented our golf program and Ohio Dominican."
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II and NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 in Division I, II and III and 3.5 in NAIA. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) is the professional association of men's golf coaches. Established in 1958, this non-profit organization is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing its members who participate in men's golf at all levels. Through its established events and programs, the GCAA maintains a goal of increasing awareness and the status of men's golf. |
6/8/2010 ODU’s Hartoin Named to GCAA All-Region Team by Bill Griffin COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) recently announced its PING All-America selection for the NAIA following the 59th Annual Men's Golf National Championships in Silvis, Illinois.
Ohio Dominican's Kevin Hartoin (Cincinnati, OH) was named to the GCAA PING All-North Region Team after placing 21st overall at the national tournament. The freshman from Elder High School competed in all six tournaments with the Panthers this spring shooting an average round score of 77.42. Kevin also finished tied for 21st overall at the NAIA Men's National Golf Championships posting a final score of 298. more
The Panthers qualified for their second national tournament in school history after winning the NAIA Unaffiliated/KIAC Independent Tournament held at Jefferson Country Club in Blacklick, Ohio. |
