8/23/2010 Follow Assistant Golf Coach Danny Sorgini at U.S. Amateur by Scott Miles UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Former ODU standout and current assistant golf coach Danny Sorgini is returning to the links this week, competing at the U.S. Amateur at Chambers Bay on Monday and Tuesday.
Sorgini is one of 312 players in the field, and the top 64 will advance to the match play stage, which begins Wednesday. He tees off at 3:40 p.m. (EDT) today and 10:25 a.m. (EDT) tomorrow. Live scoring and video is available by clicking here. more
Sorgini was a two-time All-American for the Panthers from 2008-09 and also earned All-American honors as a sophomore at Tiffin.

4/28/2010 Panthers Take Second at NAIA Unaffiliated Tournament
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's golf team just missed their first trip to the NAIA Women's Golf National Tournament on Tuesday as they finished second at the Unaffiliated Qualifying Tournament in Crossville, Tennessee. The Panthers finished three strokes behind tournament champions Thomas University (GA).
Ohio Dominican found themselves down nine strokes after their first round score of 344. The youthful Panthers team stormed back into contention on the second day as they shot a team record 335, but fell just short as their combined score of 679 wasn't enough to catch Thomas University. Thomas shot a two round total of 676 after a second day total of 341 to advance to the 16th Annual Women's Golf National Championship in Rapid City, South Dakota. more
Jessica Macphee of Thomas held off the field after shooting a tournament low 158 (78/80) to finish as they tournament medalist. Natalie Foster of Tennessee Wesleyan took second after posting a score of 161 (78/83).
The Panthers had three players finish in the top 10 led by Kelsey Brock (So./Zanesville, OH; pictured) who shot a team low 167 (86/81) to finish fourth overall. Brock's second round score of 81 was a career low round. Amanda Costanzo (Fr./Silver Lake, OH) finished fifth with a combined score of 168 (84/84) in her first post season tournament of her career. Alexandria Numbers (So./Sugarcreek, OH) posted her best finish of the spring season with a 169 (87/82) to finish tied for sixth overall. Numbers also shot a career low in the second round.

4/20/2010 ODU Takes Fourth at Lady Dragon Invitational
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's golf team traveled to Tiffin, Ohio to take part in the Lady Dragon Invitational at Mohawk Golf and Country Club on Monday and Tuesday. The Panthers finished fourth in a field dominated by future Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLAIC) opponents, including host Tiffin University.
Ferris State University erased a two stroke lead on day two of the tournament to edge the University of Findlay for the team title. Ferris State shot a combined 664, while Findlay came in at 670. Ohio Dominican finished with a team score of 717 (347/370) which was good for fourth place. more
Findlay's Andrea Vogt was named the medalist after leading the field by five strokes and posting a combined score of 157 (78/79).
Ohio Dominican was led by Sarah Vonderembse (So./Lima, OH; pictured) who finished tied for eighth place with a score of 170 (80/90). Freshman Amanda Costanzo (Silver Lake, OH) posted a score of 173 (86/87) to finish tied for 12th place overall. Kelsey Brock (So./Zanesville, OH) finished tied for 18th as she shot a two round total of 185 (89/96).
The Panthers will return to action this week as they travel to Fairfield Glade, Tennessee for the Association of Independent Institutions conference tournament held at Brae Course at Heatherhurst Golf Club. |
4/12/2010 Panthers Finish 4th at Capital Purple and White Invite
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's golf team finished 4th at this year's Capital Purple and White Invitational held at Foxfire Golf Club in Lockbourne, Ohio.
The Panthers finished the two round tournament with a combined score of 734 (365/369), two strokes behind third place finishers Northwestern Ohio. Ohio Northern was crowned the team champion after posting a combined score of 688 (353/335). The Polar Bears just edged second place Otterbein College who shot a combined 693 (358/335). more
Otterbein's Catherine Brunoehler led the field as she earned the medalist honors with a combined score of 163 (82/81). Brunoehler's score of 81 tied for the tournaments low round with UNOH's Megan Russell. ONU's Ashley Johnson finished two strokes behind the leader with a score of 165 (82/83).
Ohio Dominican was led by sophomore Kelsey Brock (Zanesville, OH; pictured) who finished tied for 5th with a score of 175 (89/86). Brock was named to the All-Tournament Team after her first Top 10 finish of the season. Amanda Costanzo (Fr./Silver Lake, OH) and Sarah Vonderembse (So./Lima, OH) finished 16th and 17th respectively with scores of 183 (87/96) and 184 (93/91).
The Panthers will return to action this Sunday, April 18th as they travel to Tiffin, Ohio for the Tiffin Invitational. |
