5/7/2008 Women’s Golf Takes Third at AMC/NAIA Regional CANTON , Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's golf team placed third at the AMC /NAIA Region IX Tournament this past Monday and Tuesday at Sanctuary Golf Course in Canton , Ohio . The Panthers shot a team total of 744, which was good for third place behind eventual champions Malone College and Urbana University .
Malone cruised to a team total of 720 (369/351) to win the first spring conference and regional tournament championship in AMC history. The Pioneers will advance to the NAIA Championships, May-20-23 in San Diego , CA (Lake San Marcos Country Club). Urbana came in at 742 (372/370) to finish in second place. ODU's rounds of 380 and 364, the second lowest for the two day event, brought them in just two strokes behind Urbana . more
Walsh's Tammy Schumacher earned the tournament medalist award after shooting a two day total of 165 (81/84) and will advance as an individual to the NAIA National Tournament. Schumacher was joined by Erin Winings of Univeristy of Northwest Ohio, Elena Duncan of Malone, Bethany Eib (Arcanum, OH; pictured) of Ohio Dominican, Amy Harrison of Ursuline and Jen Blocker of Malone on the All-Tournament Team.
Eib shot a team low 177 (91/86) to finish third overall at the regional tournament. ODU's Andreina Festi ( Sugarcreek , OH ) and Megan Horan ( Englewood , OH ) also finished tied for 12th overall with scores of 186. Both players shot two day rounds of 94 and 92. Jackie Witham ( Lancaster , OH ) and Lindsey Weed ( Shaker Heights , OH ) also placed in the top 20 for the Panthers.
Witham and Horan were also selected to the AMC Scholar Athlete Team. Members of the scholar athlete team must be a junior or senior with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Witham is a two-time scholar athlete. |
4/17/2008 ODU Women Place Fifth at Wittenberg Invitational by John Goetz SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's golf team competed in the Wittenberg Spring Invitational at Windy Knoll Golf Club in Springfield, Ohio, on Tuesday and recorded a total of 384 (+100), good for fifth place out of the thirteen teams competing. Otterbein College won the event with a score of 329 (+45). The match marked the final regular season tournament appearance for the Panthers.
The Panthers finished eleven strokes behind fourth place Wittenberg and six strokes better than Urbana University . more
Leading the Panthers was senior Megan Horan ( Englewood , OH ), who finished the round with a score of 89 (+18) to finish in a four-way tie for 11th place. Classmate Andreina Festi ( Sugarcreek , OH ) carded a 97 (+26) to finish in 29th place, while junior Bethany Eib (Arcanum, OH) was close behind with a score of 98 (+27). Senior Jackie Witham ( Lancaster , OH ) rounded out the Panther scoring as she shot a round of 100 (+29). Otterbein's Catherine Brunoehler was the medalist after carding a round of 79 (+8).
Ohio Dominican will move on to compete in the AMC -NAIA Region IX Championship, hosted by Walsh University at the Sanctuary Golf Club in North Canton , Ohio . The two-day event will begin on Monday, May 5th. |
4/7/2008 Andreina Festi’s Ace Helps Panthers to Seventh Place Finish at Capital Purple and White Invitational COLUMBUS , Ohio – The Ohio Dominican University women's golf team took seventh place at the 8th Annual Capital Purple and White Invitational. The story of the day was senior Andreina Festi's hole-in-one on the par-3 5th hole at Foxfire Golf Club.
Ohio Dominican's opening round of 403 put the team in a big hole, but they were able to regroup on day two as they shot a combined 377. Otterbein College held on for the tournament championship with a team total of 662. more
DePauw University would finish with a total score of 669 to finish second. DePauw was led by Nicole Garza who would earn the honors of tournament medalist with a total score of 162.
Bethany Eib (Arcanum, OH) led the way for the Panthers shooting a two day total of 187 (101/86). Festi ( Sugarcreek , OH ) would finish 38th overall with a total score of 194 (106/88) for the Panthers. Festi's hole-in-one was the first in school history for the Panthers whose women's program is in its fifth year of competition.

4/1/2008 ODU Women Finish Third at Ohio Cup CANTON , Ohio – The Ohio Dominican University women's golf team finished third at the Ohio Cup, hosted by Malone College on Monday. The tournament was held at the Zoar Village Golf Club in Canton , Ohio and played host to six teams.
In the one day tournament, which featured alternate shot, scramble, stroke and match play formats the Panthers earned a total of 19 ½ points, good for third place. ODU earned six points and a first place finish in the alternate shot portion of the tournament. The Panthers would collect 4 ½ points in the scramble, taking second, one point in stroke play and eight points in match play by winning 4-of-5 matches played. more
Ohio Northern University was crowned the tournament champion after finishing with a total of 31 ½ points. ONU earned first place finishes in both stroke play rounds and went 5-1 in match play. The host institution, Malone College , took second with 28 points. Malone didn't receive any first place wins, but went 6-0 in match play.
The Panthers return to action this Friday and Saturday as they join the men's team at the Capital Purple and White Invitational. The two day tournament will be held at Foxfire Golf Club in Grove City , Ohio . |
